How do I register to vote?

You can register to vote in Colorado in one of the following ways:

1. Online (requires a valid Colorado driver's license or ID): You can register to vote online using the Colorado Secretary of State’s website.

2. Mail, Fax, or Email: Fill out and sign the Colorado Voter Registration Form. Print, sign, and return the form to your county clerk and recorder’s office.

How do I vote?

Ballots for the Fort Collins 2017 municipal election will be mailed to every registered voter no later than March 20, 2017. Make sure that your address is current on your registration (see below on how to check and/or update your address). To return your voted mail ballot, either drop it in the mail (postage is required) or deposit it at a ballot drop-off location. You can find your closest ballot drop-off location using the City of Fort Collins' website.

How do I know if I am registered to vote?

You can use the Secretary of State's website to check your registration. If you are registered and you need to update your address, you can do this at the same time.

What if I am not a registered voter?

You can register to vote at any time up to and including Election Day. However, you must register on or before March 27, 2017 to have a ballot mailed to you. After March 27, you can pick up a ballot at the Fort Collins City Clerk’s office, 300 LaPorte Ave., Fort Collins, Colorado 80521.

When are mail ballots being sent?

Ballots will be put in the mail no later than March 20, 2017.

How can I update my voter registration?

You have two options for updating your voter registration record:

1. Online (requires a valid Colorado driver’s license or ID): You can easily update your voter registration record online using the Secretary of State's website.

2. Via Mail, Fax, or Email: Fill out and sign the Colorado Voter Registration Form. Make sure to complete Section 8, “Updating a Current Record”. Print, sign, and return the form to your county clerk and recorder’s office.

What if I don’t receive my ballot in the mail?

You should contact the City Clerk’s office at 970-221-6515 for a replacement ballot. Requests for replacement ballots may be made in person, in writing (by mail or by fax) or by telephone. Any person requesting a replacement ballot must complete a sworn statement on a form provided by the City Clerk.

When does my ballot have to be returned?

All ballots must be received by the City Clerk by 7:00 PM on Election Day, April 4th 2017. Postmarks DO NOT count.

How do I return my ballot?

You can return your ballot several different ways:

• Put it in the mail. Remember to include postage, and be sure to allow time for delivery. All ballots must be received by 7 PM on April 4th. Postmarks do not count!

• Deposit it at any ballot drop-off location. Use the City of Fort Collins' website to find the ballot drop off location nearest you.

Do I have the option to vote in person?

No. The City of Fort Collins does not offer in-person voting for municipal elections. If you need assistance, please call the Fort Collins City Clerk’s Office at (970) 221-6515.

What is the difference between the Larimer County Clerk and the Fort Collins City Clerk in this election? Who is doing what?

The Larimer County Clerk and Recorder is responsible for voter registration. You should go to the COUNTY Clerk’s office to register to vote or to update your registration if you are doing it in person. The Fort Collins CITY Clerk is running this municipal election, and is responsible for mailing ballots, collecting ballots, processing ballots and counting ballots. If you did not receive a ballot (but do not need to update your registration) or if you need a replacement ballot for any reason, you should go the CITY Clerk’s office.

Do I have to show my ID to vote?

If you are voting for the first time in Colorado and did not provide ID when you registered to vote, you will need to supply a copy of your ID with your mail ballot. If this is required, your mail ballot packet will be marked ID REQUIRED to show that you need to supply a copy of an ID. See this list for acceptable forms of ID.

I made an incorrect mark on my mail ballot, I lost my ballot, and/or my dog ate my ballot (yes, this happens). Can I get a new one?

Yes. You can request a new ballot by contacting the Fort Collins City Clerk. Requests for replacement ballots may be made in person, in writing (by mail or by fax) or by telephone. Any person requesting a replacement ballot must complete a sworn statement on a form provided by the City Clerk. If you request a replacement ballot in person, then you can sign the statement at the same time as you receive your new ballot. Replacement ballots requested in writing or by phone will be mailed along with the required form. The form must be signed in the presence of a notary and returned in the envelope with the voted ballot.

I will be out of town during the election. Can I still vote?

Yes. You can add a mailing address, different from your registration address, to your record, and have your ballot mailed to that address, if you do this before March 27. If you have a valid Colorado driver’s license or ID, you can designate this alternate mailing address by visiting the Secretary of State's website. If you do not have a valid Colorado driver’s license or ID, fill out a Colorado Voter Registration Form and return it to your county clerk’s office by mail, email or fax before March 27.
